# Sign-in and your account

## Create an account

You can register with an email address and password, or with an account you
already have at Google, GitHub, GitLab, Linear or Atlassian.

### With email and password

1. **Fill in the form**

Go to [app.myspec.dev](https://app.myspec.dev), select **Sign up**, and
enter your **Name**, **Email**, **Password** and **Confirm Password**.
2. **Accept the terms**

Tick **I agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy**, then select
   **Create Account**.
3. **Verify your email**

MySpec sends a verification link to your address. Open it to confirm your
account, then select **Go to sign in**.

Your password must have:

- At least 8 characters
- No more than 128 characters
- At least 1 uppercase letter
- At least 1 lowercase letter
- At least 1 digit
- At least 1 special character

If the email does not arrive, check your spam folder, then select
**Resend email**. The button becomes available again after a short wait.

If a verification link is invalid or has expired, the page lets you enter your
address and select **Send verification email** to get a new one. If you
registered earlier but never verified, just sign in: MySpec sends you a new
verification link automatically.

### With Google, GitHub, GitLab, Linear or Atlassian

On the **Sign up** page, tick the terms box first. The provider buttons stay
disabled until you do. Then select **Continue with** your provider and
approve the sign-in there.

On the sign-in page, the first time you use a provider in a browser, MySpec
asks you to agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy in a
**Before you continue** dialog.

Go to [app.myspec.dev](https://app.myspec.dev) and either:

- Enter your **Email** and **Password** and select **Sign In**, or
- Select **Continue with** Google, GitHub, GitLab, Linear or Atlassian.

After you sign in, MySpec opens your **Projects** page.

Repeated failed attempts are rate limited. If you see **Too many login
attempts**, wait a while before you try again.

### One account, several sign-in methods

If you sign in with a provider that uses the same email address as your
verified MySpec account, MySpec links the provider to that account. You can
then sign in either way and see the same projects.

If you see **This account is already linked to a different user.**, the
provider account is already connected to another MySpec account. Sign in with
that account instead.

## Reset your password

1. **Request a reset link**

On the sign-in page, select **Forgot password?**, enter your email and
   select **Send Reset Link**.
2. **Open the email**

If an account exists for that address, MySpec emails you a reset link.
The link expires, so use it soon.
3. **Choose a new password**

Enter a **New Password** that meets the password rules, confirm it, and
select **Reset Password**. Then sign in with the new password.

If the page says **Invalid Reset Link**, the link was already used or has
expired. Select **Request a new reset link**.

## Set up your workspace

The first time you sign in, MySpec asks which workspace (organization) to use.

- **If you belong to one or more organizations** (for example, because a
teammate invited you), choose one under **Select a workspace**.
- **If you don't belong to any yet**, create one under **Create your
  workspace**:
  - **Organization slug**: a URL-friendly identifier, such as `my-company`.
MySpec suggests one from your email address.
  - **Organization Name**: filled in from the slug. You can change it.

Select **Create Workspace**, or choose **Skip and set one up for me** to let
MySpec create one for you from your email address.

If your plan doesn't allow another workspace, the form tells you.

Next, MySpec asks **What's your role?** Pick the
[professional role](#professional-role) closest to how you work, or select
**Skip for now**. You can change it at any time.

## Your profile

Open the avatar menu and choose **Profile**.

### Personal information

The **Personal Information** card shows your photo, **Name**, **Username**,
**Email**, **Timezone** and **Locale**. To change your name, timezone or
locale, select **Edit**, update the fields in **Edit Profile**, and select
**Save Changes**.

Your **Username** is the `@` handle people use to mention you in comments.
You can't change it.

### Profile photo

Select **Change photo** and pick an image:

- PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP
- Under 5 MB

In **Adjust your photo**, drag and **Zoom** to crop it, then select **Save**.
An animated image is saved as a still image of its first frame. Changing your
photo many times in a row is rate limited.

### Organizations

The **Organizations** card lists every organization you belong to, with your
role in each. The active one has an **Active** badge.

- **Switch** makes another organization active.
- **Leave** removes you from an organization.

See [Organizations and members](/guides/organizations/#leave-an-organization)
for what leaving does.

### Professional role

Your professional role tells MySpec how you work. The AI adapts its questions
to it, and the subtitle on your **Projects** page changes to match.

| Role | Focus |
|---|---|
| **Developer** | Implementation-focused: plans, tasks, and code-ready specs. |
| **QA Engineer** | Quality-led: acceptance criteria, traceability, test readiness. |
| **Business Analyst** | Requirements-led: user stories, acceptance criteria, scope. |
| **Project Manager** | Delivery-led: milestones, scope, stakeholders, and timelines. |
| **Solution Architect** | Design-led: constitution, solution design, system boundaries. |

Pick one in the **Professional Role** card on your profile, or from **Role**
in the avatar menu.

Your professional role belongs to the organization you are in. You can be a
Developer in one organization and a Solution Architect in another. When you
switch to an organization where you have no role yet, MySpec asks you to pick
one.

### Notification preferences

- **Notification Sound** plays a sound when the AI finishes responding. It
is on by default and saved in this browser only.
- **Email notifications** lets you choose which notifications also reach you
  by email. See [Notifications](/guides/notifications/#choose-email-notifications).

The **MCP Servers** card at the bottom of the page is for your personal MCP
servers. See [Connect your own MCP servers](/guides/your-mcp-servers/).

## Language

The MySpec interface is available in these languages:

| Language | Shown as |
|---|---|
| English | English |
| Japanese | 日本語 |
| Simplified Chinese | 简体中文 |
| Vietnamese | Tiếng Việt |

Change it in any of these places:

- **Language** in the avatar menu.
- **Locale** in **Edit Profile**. It also offers **English (UK)**, which
  shows the interface in English.
- The language button at the top of the sign-in and sign-up pages.

The language also decides the language the AI writes in. A new chat uses the
interface language at the moment you start it, and keeps it for the whole
session. Inside a chat, the language menu is locked:
**Language is locked for this session. Start a new chat to use a different
language.**

## Theme

MySpec starts in dark mode. To change it, open the avatar menu and use the
**Theme** switch to choose **Light** or **Dark**. The choice is saved in this
browser.

## Sign out

Open the avatar menu and choose **Sign out**.
