# Organizations and members

An organization is the shared space for a team. Its projects, members, Custom
Skills and plan limits all belong to the organization. During sign-up MySpec
calls it a **workspace**.

What a member can do on each project depends on their **project role**:
**Read**, **Write** or **Admin**. Your organization sets a default project
access for every member, and each project can give more to people and teams.
See [Teams and project access](/guides/teams-and-project-access/).

## Roles

Each member has one role in each organization.

| | Member | Admin | Owner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Role on each project | Their [project role](/guides/teams-and-project-access/#how-access-works) | Always Admin | Always Admin |
| Create projects | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| See **Organization settings** | No | Yes | Yes |
| Invite people, resend and cancel invitations | No | Yes | Yes |
| Manage teams and the default project access | No | Yes | Yes |
| Write and edit the organization's Custom Skills | No | Yes | Yes |
| Change the **Spec integrations** switch | No | Yes | Yes |
| Remove members | No | Members only | Members and admins |
| Get plan limit and payment notifications | No | Yes | Yes |

The person who creates an organization is its owner. Nobody can remove
themselves; to go, you [leave the organization](#leave-an-organization).

## Switch organizations

You work in one active organization at a time. To switch:

- Open the avatar menu, expand **Organization** and pick one, or
- Go to **Profile** and select **Switch** next to the organization.

MySpec reloads with the new organization's data. If you were on a project page,
you land on **Projects** instead, because that project belongs to the other
organization. If you have no professional role in the new organization yet,
MySpec asks you to pick one first.

## Organization settings

Owners and admins open the settings from the avatar menu: choose
**Organization settings**. The page applies to the active organization. Plain
members don't see the menu item.

### Invite people

1. **Enter the address**

Under **Invite people**, enter the person's **Email address**.
2. **Choose a role**

Pick **Member** or **Admin** in **Role**. You can't invite someone as an
   owner.
3. **Send it**

Select **Send invitation**. MySpec emails them a link to join. The
invitation stays pending until they accept it.

If the form refuses the invitation:

| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| **That person is already a member of this organization.** | Nothing. They already have access. |
| **That address already has a pending invitation. Send it again to re-deliver the email.** | Use **Resend** under **Pending invitations**. |
| **This organization has reached its invitation limit.** | Cancel invitations you no longer need, then try again. |

### Pending invitations

**Pending invitations** lists every invitation nobody has accepted yet, with
its role.

- **Resend** emails the same invitation again.
- **Cancel** withdraws it. The link in the email stops working.

### Members

**Members** lists everyone in the organization with their role.

To remove someone, select **Remove** next to their name and confirm. They lose
access to the organization and its projects in the web app straight away. A
client that is already connected can keep working for a short time; see
[Revoke a token](/mcp/api-tokens/#revoke-a-token). You only see
**Remove** next to people your role allows you to remove.

MySpec also takes a removed member out of every team and removes the project
access given to them personally. If they join again later, give them access
again.

### Teams

The **Teams** card lists your organization's teams: groups of members you can
give access to projects together. Select **New team** to create one, and
**Members**, **Edit** or **Delete** next to a team to manage it. See
[Teams](/guides/teams-and-project-access/#teams).

### Default project access

The **Default project access** card sets the role every member has on every
project, before any team or personal access: **No access**, **Read**,
**Write** (the default) or **Admin**. Owners and admins always have Admin. See
[Your organization's default project access](/guides/teams-and-project-access/#your-organizations-default-project-access).

### Spec integrations

When a Generate session finishes, MySpec can offer **Build with your favourite
tool**: buttons that open your specs in Lovable, Bolt or Replit. The
**Spec integrations** setting controls whether that panel appears.

| Setting | What happens |
|---|---|
| On (default) | Finishing a Generate session creates temporary links to your spec files. Anyone with a link can open it for 24 hours. For Lovable, Bolt and Replit, the links are handed to that company's website. |
| Off | The panel is hidden and finished specs are not sent to outside build tools. |

To change it, tick or untick **Allow “Build with your favourite tool” after a
Generate session**.

This setting does not affect:

- **Downloading** the spec bundle. It always stays available.
- **Share links** you create yourself from a project. They are a separate
  feature. See [Share links](/guides/share-links/).

See [Finish a session and build](/guides/finishing-a-session/) for the panel
itself.

### Custom Skills

The **Custom Skills** card holds your organization's library of domain
knowledge for the AI. See [Custom Skills](/guides/custom-skills/).

## Accept an invitation

1. **Open the link**

Open the invitation link in the email.
2. **Sign in with the invited address**

If you are signed out, MySpec asks you to sign in or create an account.
Use the email address the invitation was sent to. After you sign in, you
   return to the invitation.
3. **Join**

MySpec accepts the invitation and shows **You have joined the
organization**. Select **Go to projects**. If you have no professional
role in this organization yet, MySpec asks you to pick one.

If MySpec can't accept the invitation, the page says why:

| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| The invitation no longer exists | It was already accepted or was cancelled. Ask for a new invitation if you still need one. |
| The invitation was sent to a different email address | Sign out, sign in with the account the invitation was sent to, and open the link again. |
| You need to verify your email address | Verify your email first, then open the link again. |
| The organization has reached its member limit | Ask an owner of that organization to free a seat. |
| **Organization limit reached** | Your plan limits how many organizations you can belong to. Select **Manage organizations**, leave organizations you don't own, then select **Check again**. |
| **Invitation link is incomplete** | Open the link from the invitation email again. |
| **Could not accept the invitation** | The invitation may have expired or already been used. Select **Try again**, or ask for a new invitation. |

## Leave an organization

1. **Find the organization**

Open the avatar menu, choose **Profile**, and find the organization under
   **Organizations**.
2. **Leave**

Select **Leave** and confirm. You lose access to the organization's
projects and data in the web app straight away. A client that is already
connected can keep working for a short time; see
[Revoke a token](/mcp/api-tokens/#revoke-a-token). MySpec also takes you
out of the organization's teams and removes the project access given to
   you personally.

If you leave the organization that is active right now, MySpec signs you out.
Sign in again to continue in another organization.

If you are the only owner, **Leave** is disabled.
