# Share links

A share link gives anyone a read-only copy of spec files you choose from a
project. Viewers don't need a MySpec account.

> **Anyone with the link can open it**
>
> A share link is public. Anyone who has it can read the shared files until the
> link expires or you revoke it. Send it only to people who may see those
> files.

## What a link contains

- The spec files you select, with **every revision** each file has when you
  create the link.
- A frozen snapshot. Revisions saved later don't appear until you
[refresh the link](#refresh-a-link). A file keeps only its 10 most recent
revisions, so an older shared revision stops opening once 10 newer ones are
  saved.
- Nothing else. Attachments, chats and comments are never shared.

| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Files per link | Up to 50 |
| Revisions per link | Up to 100, across all selected files |
| Expiry | 1 to 30 days, 7 days by default |
| Links per project | 3, counting active, expired and revoked links |

Creating or refreshing a link also counts toward your organization's monthly
**Public links** limit. See [Usage and limits](/guides/usage-and-limits/).

## Create a link

You need **Write** access on the project to share it. With **Read** access, the
**Share** button doesn't appear. See
[Teams and project access](/guides/teams-and-project-access/).

1. Open the project and select **Share** in the header.
2. Under **Select files to share**, choose the files. Files from completed
sessions are selected for you. Files from a session that is still
**In progress** are listed but not selected. Use the checkbox next to a
folder to select or clear all of its files.
3. Under **Link expires after**, enter a number of days between 1 and 30.
4. Select **Create link**.
5. Select **Copy link**, send the link to the people you want to share with,
   then select **Done**.

If the project already has three links, MySpec asks you to delete one first.
See [Delete a link](#delete-a-link).

## What viewers see

The link opens a read-only page with:

- The project's name and description.
- The shared files, in their folders. Viewers can open a file, read it, switch
between the revisions included in the link, and download it.
- **Download all**, which saves the latest shared revision of every file as a
  zip file.
- A short overview of how MySpec writes specs.

Viewers can't edit files, see comments or attachments, or chat with the AI. The
message box at the bottom of the page invites them to create a free account
instead (**Meet your AI Spec Writer**). Viewers who are already signed in to
MySpec see **You're signed in** and can go back to their own projects with
**Go to my projects**.

The page asks search engines not to list it, but treat the link itself as
public.

If a link can't be opened, the page says why:

| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| This shared link doesn't exist. | The link is incomplete, mistyped or deleted. |
| This shared link has expired. | The link's expiry has passed. You can refresh it. |
| This shared link has been revoked by its owner. | Someone revoked the link. It can't be used again. |

## Manage links

Open the project, select **Share**, then **Manage links**. The **Public links**
list shows every link for the project, whoever created it, with:

- Its state: **Active**, **Expired** or **Revoked**.
- The number of files and when it expires.
- **Copy**, to copy the link again.

At the top, the list shows how many of the project's three links are in use.
Anyone with **Write** access to the project can refresh, revoke or delete any of
the project's links.

### Refresh a link

Refreshing replaces the snapshot with the current revisions of the same files
and sets a new expiry. The link itself stays the same, so people who already
have it see the update.

1. Select **Refresh** next to the link.
2. Enter the **New expiry (days)**, then select **Refresh**.

You can refresh active and expired links, but not revoked ones. A file that has
since moved to the Trash or been deleted is left out, and MySpec tells you how
many files were skipped. If none of the files can be included, the link stays
as it was.

### Revoke a link

Select **Revoke**, then confirm. The link stops working and can't be turned back
on. A revoked link still counts toward the project's three links until you
delete it.

### Delete a link

Select **Delete**, then confirm. The link is removed for good, which frees a slot
for a new one. You can delete a link in any state; deleting an active link also
stops it from working.

> **Note**
>
> Revoking or deleting a link stops the page from opening. It can't take back
> files someone has already downloaded.
