Working together

See who else is in a project, catch up on changes others make, and avoid editing over each other.

Updated View as Markdown

MySpec shows you who else is working, tells you when something changed under you, and keeps two people from silently saving over each other.

Who can see a project

Your project role decides whether you can open a project and what you can do in it. With Read you can follow along but not change anything; Write lets you edit specs, comment and chat with the AI; Admin also manages the project and who has access. People with no role on a project can’t see it at all.

To see who has access to a project, open its Settings tab and select Access.

See who is here

The top bar of a project, and the header of a session, show the other people who have the project open right now. In a project’s top bar they appear when the window is wide enough to fit them beside the tabs. You are never shown in your own list.

Eye Viewing the project

People working in a session are listed first. Point at an avatar to see the person’s name, their role in the organization and what they are doing. When there are too many to fit, a counter shows how many more are viewing or in a session. The list is hidden on the smallest screens.

Viewing or working

Opening a session counts as viewing. You count as working once you send a message or open the spec editor in that session, and you stay working until you leave the session page. A completed or archived session only ever counts as viewing.

When you step away

If you do not use the keyboard, mouse or touch screen in a MySpec tab for a while, you drop out of everyone’s list. You come back as soon as you use the tab again or switch back to it. While the AI is replying in a session you have open, you stay listed.

People in a project

Open the project’s Settings tab and select Access. Below the Access card are two lists:

  • People with access: everyone who can open this project, with their role. Project Admins change access in the Access card above.
  • Collaborators: everyone who has written a revision in this project, with their number of revisions and when they were last active. You are included.

To change who is in the organization, or their roles, see Organizations and members. To change who can open a project, see Teams and project access.

Who is on this spec file

When you open a spec file in the editor, a bar above it shows who else has the same file open in the editor. People with unsaved changes are listed first. Point at an avatar to see what the person is doing:

  • Viewing this file: they have it open.
  • Editing — has unsaved changes: they have changes they have not saved yet.
  • MySpec AI: the AI is writing to the file.

The bar also tells you when the file changed since you opened it, for example “Rev 4 saved by Jane.”, with a Compare button so you can see the difference before you save.

Edit locks

When you have unsaved changes in a file, other people see that you are editing it. If someone else is already editing, the bar says “Jane is editing this file.” Select Edit anyway to take over. The lock is a warning, not a block: if two people save, MySpec catches the conflict and lets you choose what to keep, so nobody’s work is lost silently. See View and edit spec files for locks, save conflicts and recovering unsaved drafts.

When someone adds to a chat

Several people can open the same session. If someone else adds a turn to the chat you are looking at, a banner appears above the message box, for example:

Jane just added a new turn to this chat. Refresh to see the latest.

Select Refresh to load the latest messages, or Dismiss to hide the banner. You see the same banner, worded “You (in another tab or device) just added a new turn to this chat.”, when you used the session from another tab or device.

If you send a message while the session is still busy with a turn started on another device, MySpec shows Session is busy. Dismiss it and use Refresh to load the latest chat.

Discuss the specs

Use comments to discuss a passage of a spec file. Threads stay attached to the text, and teammates can reply, resolve and reopen them.
