Usage and limits

Check your AI activity and your organization's plan limits, and know what happens when a limit is near or reached.

Updated View as Markdown

The Usage page shows two things: your own AI activity this month, and the plan limits of your active organization. To open it, open the avatar menu and choose Usage.

Your activity this month

The top of the page covers your own activity in the current calendar month. The dates appear next to the subtitle.

Card What it counts
Requests Requests you sent to the AI.
AI tokens Tokens the AI read and wrote for you.
Sessions Sessions (chats) you worked in.

Tokens by model splits your tokens across the AI models that served your requests, with each model’s share. The section appears once you have used the AI this month.

Below the limits, the page also lists your recent projects and recent chats.

Plan limits

Plan limits apply to the whole organization, not just to you. The page shows only the limits your organization’s plan sets, grouped by how they reset:

Group Meaning
Monthly limits Allowances that reset every month.
Weekly limits Allowances that reset every week.
Quota limits Ceilings that never reset. You free up room by deleting things, or with a larger plan.

The limits a plan can set:

Limit What it counts
Members People in the organization.
Projects Projects in the organization.
Spec files Spec files across all projects.
Monthly AI Usage AI use by everyone in the organization this month.
Weekly AI Usage AI use by everyone in the organization this week.
Public links Share links created or refreshed this month.
Storage Space used by attachments and spec file revisions.

Each row shows one of:

  • Unlimited, when your plan sets no cap.
  • The amount used and the limit, such as X of Y used.
  • How much of the allowance is used, for the AI usage limits.

A bar under each row fills as you use the allowance and changes color as you get close. A full row says Limit reached. Rows that reset show Next reset with the date and time in your own timezone.

If the page says No plan limits are configured for your organization., your organization has no limits to show.

When you get close to a limit

Owners and admins of the organization get a Quota warning notification when the organization is approaching a limit. By default it also arrives by email. See Notifications.

When you reach a limit

Owners and admins get a Quota exceeded notification, in the app and, by default, by email.

When an action would go past a limit, MySpec stops it and shows You’ve reached a plan limit. The dialog names the limit and what you can do:

Limit reached What the dialog suggests
Spec files Delete specs you no longer need, or move to a larger plan.
Projects Delete a project you no longer need, or move to a larger plan.
Storage Remove large attachments or old revisions, or move to a larger plan.
Public links Wait for the allowance to reset next month, or move to a larger plan.
AI usage Wait for the allowance to reset next period, or move to a larger plan.

Select View usage to see what is using the allowance, or Dismiss to close the dialog.

Owners and admins are told to upgrade the plan to continue. Members are told to ask their organization owner to upgrade it.

Some limits show up elsewhere:

  • A person can’t join through an invitation while the organization is at its Members limit. See Accept an invitation.
  • Each project also has its own cap on share links. See Share links.

Getting more

Plans differ in their limits. To raise a limit, your organization needs a larger plan. If you are not an owner, ask one.

Until then:

  • Monthly and weekly allowances come back at the Next reset time.
  • Quota limits free up when you delete projects, spec files or attachments you no longer need, or remove members.
