What is MySpec?

MySpec is the AI Architect for developers. It interviews you about what you want to build, then writes implementation-ready spec files, one file at a time. You review each file before the next one is written, then build from the finished specs yourself or with your AI coding agent. Start with What is MySpec? or the Quickstart.

Which workflow should I pick?

It depends on whether you are starting something new or changing existing code.

You want to Pick Stages
Spec a new product or feature (the default) MySpec Interview → Constitution → Requirements → Solution → Tasks
Follow the SpecKit method SpecKit Interview → Constitution → Specify → Plan → Tasks
Spec a change to an existing codebase, quickly MySpec brownfield Interview → Proposal → Requirements (→ optional Tasks)
Spec a change to an existing codebase, in full OpenSpec Explore → Proposal → Specs → Solution → Tasks
Change spec files you already have An Edit session Reference files → Describe changes → Review suggestions

See Generate sessions, Edit sessions and Work on an existing codebase.

Can I edit the spec files by hand?

Yes. In an Edit session, open a spec file with Edit manually and change it in the editor, then save. You can also describe the change and let the AI make it. Every save adds a new revision, and the 10 most recent revisions stay available. See View and edit spec files.

Which languages does MySpec support?

The app and the specs it writes are available in English, Simplified Chinese (简体中文), Japanese (日本語) and Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt). A session writes in the language you use when it starts. The language is then locked for that session; start a new chat to use a different one.

Which AI model does MySpec use?

MySpec picks a model automatically, or you can choose one in the message box before you send.

How does my coding agent get the specs?

You have three options:

  • Download the spec files and add them to your repository.
  • Connect your agent to MySpec over MCP, so it can list, read and update spec files directly. See Connect your coding agent.
  • Hand the specs to a build tool from the end of a Generate session. See Finish a session and build.

Should I use the remote or the local MCP server?

  • Use the remote server in Claude or ChatGPT (web, desktop or mobile), or in any client that can connect over HTTP. There is nothing to install.
  • Use the local server when your agent runs on your machine and you want to save spec files to disk or share your code with Brownfield sessions. It needs Node.js 22 or later.

Both offer nearly the same tools. See the comparison for details.

How do I revoke access?

To stop Do this
An API token Avatar menu → API tokens → Revoke.
A connected app, such as Claude or ChatGPT Avatar menu → Connected apps → Disconnect. Removing the connector in the app alone is not enough.
A stream token Revoke it with revoke_stream_token. See Stream tokens.
A share link Project page → Share → Manage links → Revoke.
A person’s access to your organization Owners and admins can Remove a member in the organization settings.
A person’s or team’s access to one project Project page → Settings → Access → Remove. Needs Admin on the project.
The reverse bridge Stop the command (Ctrl-C).

See Security and privacy tips.

Is my code uploaded when I use Brownfield?

Not as a whole. MySpec does not copy your repository. While the local server’s reverse command runs, MySpec’s AI can read files in the one folder you chose with --root, and nothing outside it:

  • The AI reads what it needs, when it needs it. That can be a few files, a search, or a compressed overview of the whole folder.
  • What the AI reads is sent to MySpec and becomes part of the session.
  • Common secret files, such as .env files and private keys, are skipped by default. Keep credentials out of the folder anyway.
  • Access ends when you stop the command.

The browser’s Local Workspace works in a similar way, through your browser tab instead of a command. See Attachments and local files.

Who can see my projects?

Inside your organization, it depends on each person’s project role. By default every member has Write on every project, so everyone can open every project. Organization owners and admins can change that default, and each project can give more access to people and teams. Owners and admins always see every project. See Teams and project access.

People outside your organization can only see what you put in a share link: a read-only snapshot of the files you choose, until the link expires or you revoke it.

How do I limit who can see a project?

The organization’s default project access applies to every project, so a project is only private when the default is No access:

  1. An organization owner or admin sets Organization settings → Default project access to No access. Members then see only the projects they are given access to, and the projects they create.
  2. Give teams or people access to the projects they need, from each project’s Access card under Settings → Access.

To let everyone read every project but only some people change it, set the default to Read and give Write to a team instead. See Teams and project access.

How do I archive or delete things?

Item How
Project Archive it from its More options menu, or from Settings → General → Danger zone in the project. Once it is archived, Delete removes it permanently.
Chat Archive it from its More options menu. An archived chat is read-only. Once it is archived, Delete removes it permanently.
Spec file Move to Trash. You can restore it from the Trash Bin, or delete it permanently there.
Attachment Remove it from the file explorer.
Share link Revoke it to stop it working, or Delete it to remove it and free a slot.

Deleting a project or a chat cannot be undone. See Projects and View and edit spec files.

Archiving and deleting a project need Admin on it. Everything else in the table needs Write.

What happens when I leave an organization?

You lose access to its projects in the web app straight away, and MySpec takes you out of its teams and removes the project access given to you personally. Apps you connected to that organization are disconnected, and your API tokens for it stop working (the API tokens page shows them as Unusable). A client that is already connected can keep working for a short time; see Revoke a token. If it is your active organization, MySpec signs you out. See Organizations and members.

Where can I see how much I have used?

Open the avatar menu and choose Usage. See Usage and limits.
